About
We're just a family of four who relocated from the city to slowly and intentionally cultivate the backyard farm of our dreams.

Hi. I'm Gina.
Originally from the Bay Area of California, our family moved to Portland, Oregon in 2015. We came to the gorgeous Pacific Northwest in pursuit of a slower paced life. We yearned for a lifestyle that allowed for more balance and afforded us more time to enjoy nature and rich experience. Our ultimate dream of cultivating a small farm wouldn't come to fruition until 2022, when we bought a home on 1.5 acres of wooded and grassy land. We are quickly learning that both maintaining and preparing our property to nurture our dreams takes a ton of work, and we wanted to share our process (and progress!) along the way.

I'm the mama of this family, and the voice of this website. My background is eclectic, and includes an early career in real estate, followed by more than a decade in the high-tech industry, a long stint as a stay-at-home mom, entrepreneur, and public school paraeducator. Two of my greatest passions are writing (check out the children's book we published!) and caring for animals. I am at greatest peace when I'm lost in a creative project with a dog at my feet. Home with my husband, Zach, and our two daughters, DJ and Zoey, is my favorite place to be (under a blanket and with a cup of coffee!).

"Where Black Sheep Roam" is a tribute to the way I've felt my whole life....just a tad different from the rest, with a deep desire to prove my value and worthiness. I suspect my blog posts might share more of this as I write about the things on my heart. It's also a hat tip to the quirkiness of our family, and the farm animals that we'll eventually rescue. We are strong advocates for the underdog, and always embrace the castaways.
In our home, ALL ARE WELCOME.
The day we closed escrow on our farm, 11/4/2023.
